I don't know, I think most writers are creatures of habit and when they write well once, they repeat that environment until they don't write well. I recall reading about one writer that did all his work on an ancient PC running DOS and Word Perfect because his first big hit was written on that system. For myself, I will either write on a lined mini-notebook and copy into Word on my PC, or write in Word on my PC. And the environment must be absolutely silent for the most part.

Not while driving, but when I exercise I do something similar and pace myself song to song, just work through the current song and not look at the whole. I find that works well to keep me going, that way I'm not "OMG 40 minutes more" I'm "OMG Bad Romance, I can definitely get through this one more song!"
