I agree with Hidden Woman--it is very hard to get people to change their minds when they have been brought up believing a certain thing...all those grandparents who just insist that homosexuals are evil, we really can't blame them. They say you can't teach an old dog new tricks; you also can't always get them to change their opinions. They are just too deeply ingrained and I think we need to stop worrying or even thinking about that generation. What Gaga does is what I think is most important: she is speaking to the younger generation, a generation of people who are questioning the world around them and still very "mold-able" :) That is the group that is going to start the change, and it's clear even from just looking around at the sheer NUMBER of people on this site that she has made a huge impact on the views of younger people. They will pass on those views and hopefully start a cycle of greater and greater acceptance. I also think that her use of social media is huge; in this world where everyone is so connected via internet, etc., it seems that we are constantly meeting people who defy stereotypes and force us to rethink our values. Being challenged like that is such a gift; it opens our minds and teaches acceptance in a way that sheer lecturing cannot. it's seriously not! Like, not to be a nerd or anything, lol, but if you actually study biblical history...in the OLD TESTAMENT, there are lots of rules: being a homosexual is an abomination, apparently, as is getting a tattoo or eating pork, well guess what, it wasn't the tattoos or the pork or the homosexuality that were being condemned at all! It is the fact that pigs and tattooing were used in different Babylonian rituals, and the Babylonians also celebrated homosexuality. SO, if you are a Christian/Jew, and do believe that God said those things, which I personally haven't decided entirely yet, but if you do believe that then know that God is not saying that you are "bad" somehow if you are a homosexual, those were ways to set the Israelites apart from the Babylonians!!
