A mechanic now needs to be a qualified programer as well. You should consider a bit of a formal education. Up date what you already know. Even studying some of the basics can improve your vocabulary. You are selling your time and experience to an employer who you want to respect you. Qualifications are simply an indication of competence for insurance purposes. I am in a similar boat. The jobs I used to do, I now need to be insured for. No paper work, no insurance. There has to be a way round it? Simplest seems to be qualifications?
I believe in what I don't know. I have faith in what I do know.

@Daisyart0 I am severely mentally ill. Any employer who would hire me, credentials or not, would have to be as well. It was just an analogy anyway, I don't know cars. I speak eloquently and I can use abductive and lateral thinking very well, but that alone doesn't equal employability, sadly. I'm trying to found a think tank instead; I won't make money but at least I'd be doing something useful.
I don't know what motivates people to deliberately try to upset people like you did the other day. Probably varies from person to person. I'm doing a little more research on personality disorders these days. I'm not saying you do or don't have one but if I see anything that looks like it might be useful to you, I'll try to let you know.

@LadyGaga Not according to anyone I know. They have to be "skeptical" unless they have a signed, notarized statement. (EDIT: That's hyperbole.) They "believe" I'm a good, imaginative person who is good at helping people, but not that I have any sort of unusual analytical ability. Anyone can be "nice". I have an ability to do amazing things and I can't do a damn thing with it because I don't have "credentials". It's like a high school diploma. It doesn't matter how good you are at repairing cars. Nobody will ever hire a mechanic with no diploma or GED. They don't give you the chance to prove it another way. No diploma means your abilities are shit. There's no diploma in what you just saw me spend eight months doing. I can't go and show I can do it another way because it's completely unheard of. I can only beg you. I told you, I'm not going to touch that thing again unless something dramatic changes. It's hell for the other aspects of my life, especially my relationships. I'm sorry but I'm not backing down on this.
