Who inspires you? Project #inspire

My sister inspires me the most. I drew this cartoon for her. It illustrates my sister as a strong female. She supports equality of all people and calls herself a feminist. She believes that everyone deserves equal opportunities and vocalises to others why they should encourage equality. This courage really inspires me to talk up about things I believe in. #art #equality Who inspires you? Post your inspirations or maybe tag someone in the comments! 1. My man! :) creative as he is - and as different his thought process is compared to mine - I get even more out of his presence than inspiration, haha 2. it's @gaga by bringing art to the front and thus confronting me with stuff I haven't thought about yet... 3. the Gay Museum in Berlin, having exhibitions relating to the LGBTIQ* community. As I get confronted with other concepts of identity, life and living - packaged within an exhibition and art work - I broaden my horizon every time I go there

Many inspire me from Thales to Lady Gaga to you folks. There is one who stands apart in my mind: Theresa Sparks. Most of you don't know who she is, so here's a bit about her. I first encountered Theresa through a support group I was involved with, Transgender San Francisco. Theresa had already shown a lot of leadership as a CEO. But because of rampant anti-transgender discrimination she was driving taxi cabs, then was pushed out of that as well. Theresa, more than any other, worked to bring about a civil rights task force operating under the auspices of the City and County of San Francisco to evaluate how far the city had come in civil rights for transgender people and to make recommendations for changes. She invited me to serve with one of the committees which I did. In October 2000 after the passage of AB 2222 (Kuehl) addressing the American with Disabilities Act, it was determined that the changes sought would have to come at the state level. In 2003, those changes happened in the form of AB 196. Again, Theresa worked hard to get this through. When it passed, the California legislature honored Theresa as Woman of the Year. Since then other laws have made California the most trans-friendly entity anywhere, legally speaking. I'm proud of Theresa. Because of her I have continued to do my own outreach to religious communities in my own conservative county.
