Lady Gaga powerfully performed a special tribute to David Bowie directed by Nile Rodgers highlighting explosive visual effects created by Intel at the 58th Grammy Awards. Gaga performed an energetic 7-minute medley of David Bowie's signature songs: including "Space Oddity," "Rebel Rebel," and "Fashion."
**THE TECHNOLOGY:**
Lady Gaga has pushed the boundaries of live performance art by introducing technology to the stage that has never been done live before, opening up new ideas and gateways to future live performance art.
"We introduced ‘living canvas’ technology, digital skin — used in tech art installations, but never before for a live performance.” — Intel
**Gaga’s ring** allowed her to have real-time control of the stage, an L.E.D. wall & the environment around her including a 3D hologram of Bowie.
Intel’s team created a 3-D scans/motion graphics of **Gaga’s face** by capturing her in about 12 different poses with real-time face tracking technology in order to create Gaga's desired Bowie facial look. The **digital skin** is projected onto Gaga as she performs so that it looks like her “makeup” is instantaneously changing throughout her six-song performance.
"We introduced ‘living canvas’ technology to her, which allows her to basically have what we call digital skin—which has been used in tech art installations, **but never before for a live performance**.” — Intel.
