For those of you who don't know who I am, my name is David Fernandez, but i go by my drag name **Aphrodite Lady** (or Lady Aphrodite, depending on my mood). I'd like to share a little bit about myself with you little monsters and *I hope I can have an open ear. * I grew up in the city of **Miami**, a very populous city in South Florida. I didn't have many, barely any friends that I could share my thoughts or moments with. Most people thought of me as a freak or a weirdo because I was gay or because I didn't like what most boys were into at my age. My own mother did not accept me for who I am and actually kept me away from my only true friend that i had at the time. I felt very alone. I ended up turning to drugs like mary jane and molly because I needed an escape from the pain and humiliation I had to face everyday. It got to the point where I would consider suicide on a daily basis. When I got to high school, it did get a bit better, but I was still made fun of a lot and didn't have many friends. I started exploring my interests and passion more in depth. I grew passionate about art, performance, and drag and thought of them all to be beautiful expressive mediums, and i just loved doing it so much it became a part of me. I really admire Gaga for bringing art into pop culture so that more fans can find an interest in art and have a more well-rounded perspective on it. For that, I was also ridiculed by my peers and my family. They told me that it was stupid and that I wasn't an artist, that drag wasn't an art; that to be an artist, you had to do "real" art like realistic drawings and paintings. To me, I think they're wrong. Art is not that black and white. My ARTPOP could mean anything. I find creative liberation through drag and performance. It makes me feel free. **Lady Gaga, Littlemonsters.com and watching @RadioARTPOP **has inspired me to continue to pursue my artistic expression and be myself. All I want in life is to make the world a better place and be able to share my creative ideas.
