Slam Poetry I Write When I Want to be an Idiot and Pull an All Nighter
kind of ranting to those who have put me down because I'm gay. enjoy my 4 am rambling.
Straight people.
We get it.
You think that because you're heterosexual, you deserve to marry your sweetheart without any worries of fighting the legal system.
You think that because you're heterosexual, you deserve to decide what is right and what is wrong when it comes to love in our country.
You think that your sexual preference has to be the only sexual preference allowed to elope in the eyes of God and the government because you are superior. You are not going to hell because God said you were an abomination in the bible. You are not in love with someone who has the same junk as you.
Just because we are different in the sense of who we love does not mean we are different in the sense of how we love.
Believe it or not, we also want to walk down the street with the full ability to hold hands, hug or kiss our other half, but without fear of who is watching and what rude, homophobic remarks they will spew out of their ignorant mouths.
We also want to walk down the aisle of that church to be legally recognized as lovers for the rest of our God given lives, but no matter what state we live in without worrying what label our love will be given besides "married".
We also want to be able to visit our spouse in the hospital during family visiting hours, but without the thought of not being allowed because we aren't legally related in the eyes of the government.
Just because we love different people does not mean we love differently.
Just because our genitalia does not fit together perfectly like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle with a perfect picture of heterosexuality painted on top does not mean making love for us involves any less amount or different kind of love.
Just because we are different than you doesn't mean we can't feel or think the same as you in some aspect of life.
We are allowed to obtain a religious label, whether it be Buddhism, Catholicism, or better yet, Christianity.
We are allowed to believe in whatever higher power and holy book that we please.
If we happen to share the same religion as you and you have a problem with it, well, that just fucking sucks, doesn't it?
We are humans and we do feel.
We feel happy, we feel sad, we feel hurt, we feel hungry, we feel horny. We aren't some species foreign to this planet and its emotions just because we prefer that our significant others have the same private parts as us.
We are humans, we deserve the rights of our heterosexual counterparts.
We deserve the right to marry whoever we want, despite the fact that we go by the same pronouns as our partners.
We deserve the right for our marriage to be legally recognized as a marriage and not some bullshit excuse of a legally recognized relationship with the labels "domestic partnership" or "civil union" plastered all over it.
We deserve to be able to display our love for our significant others and spouses in public without eyes full of hatred and intolerance attempting to pierce our souls and make us ashamed for something we can't help and bible verses being thrown at us like stones at a criminal.
Straight people, it's about damn time you realize that we are here and we are queer and no matter what you or your God has to say about it, we aren't going anywhere.
