Taylor Lake @taylorlake54
When I was eight years old, I founded Taylor's Fun Factory. Taylor's Fun Factory was my idea of giving back my thanks to the Kentucky Children's Hospital, by bringing donated art supplies, crafts, and toys to the kids in the hospital to uplift their spirits during their stay.
All of my life I have been going through a never-ending battle with Ulcerative Colitis. I know what it's like to sit in a cold hospital bed, with IV's coming out of every inch of your body. And at such a young age, it truly sucks and you don't really have a childhood at all. So, I turned to art to help me get through it all. My mother was an artist, so she always supplied me with all kinds of paper, crayons, and paint. My hospital room was always the coolest because i decked it out with so many crazy drawings and paintings. And at eight years old, an epiphany came upon me; all kids should be making their own art and playing with toys. So, that's what I do; I provide each individual child at the hospital with their very own art kit. They get paper, paint, brushes, crayons, glue, markers, crafts, activity books and they can pick out their own stuffed animal.
I think that it is a crucial part of life to be able to express yourself, and what other way to do it best when you're a kid other than art? Art is the best medicine of all, because art is love.
I can never thank my mother and the hospital enough for making me feel so at home there; so this is my way of helping out and saying thank you.
