Let me tell you about my @RadioARTPOP 2013, Monsters and @gaga
This post is not only a summary of my 2013 but also a thank you letter to @gaga for helping it all happen.
In January 2013, I had the idea to get on this new Google product called Hangouts with some other Monsters I met online to talk about Gaga and the wait for ARTPOP. Since then, I have seen amazing things and met amazing people, Gaga fans like yoü and I.
Radio ARTPOP became a hit when the Aura demo leaked while we were broadcasting live. Our reactions were entirely genuine. Before we heard the demo on cam, none of us had heard of or ever expected a leak. Our reactions were so priceless that the video went viral.
Eight weeks later, we had @marcmonster18 and @maikeeb on the show for an episode that was both hysterical and heartwarming. We discussed Gaga and "the slayage" as some would call it, but then we discussed our stories with bullying. The online "super fans" showed many that they, too, are real people with real feelings on the other side of the computer. I went into that episode having no reason to like or dislike either of them and came out of it with two friends.
It was that episode that Gaga saw and tweeted about. In two hours of complete candidness between Monsters, she and our regular viewers and the many new viewers saw Little Monsters become friends through their computers. No stan wars. No negative shade. No arguments. Not like social networks or forums.
So the first thing I want to thank you for, @gaga, is having inspired people so much that many different personalities can belong together in one environment based on our love for you and nothing more. I've made friends, some of them best friends now, every single week thanks to Radio ARTPOP. @BrunetteGaga and @Born2BeBrave are two of the greatest, most trustworthy and caring souls I have ever met. @xemma is so genuine, honest, and deserving, and I love Emms (my nickname for her). @thehookerinme is the most interesting person I have ever had a conversation with, ever, and I love him like a brother. Those are just a few.
The second thanks is for letting me go to artRAVE. I'd never been to New York City, and I never imagined getting to meet Jessica, Emma, or Brandon, especially not any time soon. I honestly did feel brand new in New York City. When the people you're closest with are online, it's hard not to feel alone somedays. Beyond the amazing performance and art, artRAVE guaranteed life-long friendships, gave me unforgettable memories, and broke my glasses (but that's another story :P).
And lastly, thank you for ARTPOP, for promoting online kindness, for believing in Radio ARTPOP, and for supporting us on LittleMonsters.com most Mondays. Spreading your messages of bravery, kindness, and love always seemed to fall on deaf ears before making new friends through the show.
I want to share one more short story with you.
If you've seen Radio ARTPOP Ep. 34: DONATELLA!, you know our friend Shahrez @pkteen has battled cancer for two years and was told he has about four months to live. Tonight he told me that you're one of his inspirations to still not lose hope and to keep fighting, and Radio ARTPOP inspired him to share his story publicly for the first time.
He then told me that everything happens for a reason. I told him I don't believe that, but I do believe there is always a little good hiding behind the worst situations.
Then he said, "If @Gaga never recorded Aura, you guys would not have listened to it, and you would not have the Aura reaction video. I would not have discovered you, and then I would not have emailed you, and then I would not have become friends with you, and then the Radio ARTPOP episode would not have happened, and then all of this would not be possible. It's kind of crazy."
Love you Gaga.
Love you Monsters.
We could belong together.
