"G.U.Y." the song that talks a lot more than it really says.
"G.U.Y." the song that talks a lot more than it really says.
Gaga was right when she said that ARTPOP could mean anything. So right that with each passing day, we find out more and more about the album. Messages that, at first, don't even seem to be there present to us. And "G.U.Y" surprised me with its "new" meaning.
Totally away from what has been told us, about sexuality, feminism and loving to be submissive to a man, "G.U.Y" is, nothing more, nothing less, than one more answer to the haters.
"I write for the music, not for the charts", said Gaga on her Twitter. And that's the message that we can see in "G.U.Y". "I don't need to be on top / To know I'm worth it" exposes exactly that message.
Gaga doesn't need to be hitting on the radios so she and everyone else knows she's a good artist. She doesn't need to sell out stadiums so she can make a potent and spectecular show. We know how good Gaga is, the greatest and most important critics in the world share the same opinion as us. Gaga is making music, not competing.
Saying that she doesn't need to be on top to know she's worth it, shows how Gaga is secure with her career. She feels accomplished with what she does. We see that when she sings "I just want it to be hot / Because I'm best when I'm in love / And I'm in love with you!".
Gaga has been saying that she feels happier and sexier; and we can associate that sensuality woth her will of creating. "I just want it to be hot" doesn't she wants to be the most commented, but to do her best, give us her best, because she loves what she does and she loves her fans.
When Gaga says she wants to be "the girl under you", she means that she wants to be the one that may not be selling more than everyone else, but she will be remembered more than others. Because hits happen all the time, legends need to work hard for that.
