She changed the verses of Applause too, b/c remember when they were like "say my name, I can't live without the Fame" or something like that. If you think about it the verse lyrics now dont really go with the chorus. Remember the video they filmed in LA with Lindsey Lohan and she was hanging out with her a lot...what happen to that? I think Gaga went in a whole new direction with ARTPOP when she meet Mariana Abramovic. like changed everything from how she was gonna dress this Era everything. she said this Era would be full of color and a sense of lacking maturity...Applause doesn't really seem immature to me at all...seems very mature with all those art references. I think Applause is like the Marry The Night of ARTPOP. MTN was her last single and it didn't do to well b/c of the timing.
