Last Night's Drawing
Under the limitations of a particular medium, in this case a Sharpie, I like to explore just how far I can push a material to suit my needs.
I tried not to be delicate in my approach to this piece of #fanart, not even sketching the thing out in pencil. I took bold choices, black or white, one or the other. I decided to let the image stay flat. Shapes indicate form rather than describing them in any complete detail. These choices lend a severity that coincides with the subject matter.
Who doesn't love the #glovekini? For me, this is one of the most striking images from the #APPLAUSE video because of the shadow. Did anyone else at first glance get the impression that there was some shadowed figure holding her from behind? I think this leads to some interesting ideas of how #Gaga perceives herself and her own identity as #artist.
I could have cleaned this image after scanning it, but I decided against it. Stray marks lend interest. My proportions might be off in places, and some shapes don't feel as descriptive or necessary as I would like. Eh, minor details. It's spontaneous, and I think that's what I like about it most.
#ARTPOP could mean anything.
