DISCOVERED REFERENCE: Firstly we discovered that Gaga’s lyric: “I’d rather be happy and poor than rich and alone” resembles Princess Diana’s quote: “I’d rather be happy and poor than rich and alone”. As Gaga has confirmed that ARTPOP is about Princesses + Disney. HANGMAN (GRAMMAR): “-/-----/--/----/-“ We worked our way from the shortest words to the longest words. The first + last [1 letter words] are vowels which cancel out to be either: “I” or “A” or “U”. We figured out that the (last) [1 letter word] is “U” because it cannot finish with “A” or “I” because the [4 letter word] is a verb. As a result the [1st letter word] is “A” or “I”. Since “U” is the last letter, the [4 letter word] must be a verb, therefore the [2 letter word] is “to” – “to do something/perform an action on U”. Then we were left with “A _ _ _ _ _ to _ _ _ _ U”. As we dealt with the simple parts, we were left with the five + four letter words. Our minds were set to linking these words to Gaga and Diana. Firstly we looked at Diana and what she meant by her quote where she’d rather be poor and happy instead of rich and alone. We came to a conclusion that this statement refers to Diana’s love life. Diana fell in love with the man of her life (Dodi Fayad) who made her happy HOWEVER since she was the royal princess she was not allowed to marry a Muslim because it will “destroy the royal blood line” + media/family did not like the idea although Diana held on. – both Diana + Dodi died in a “car accident” later on. so clearly this tells us that Diana would've rather be poor therefore give away her rich/high status = can marry Dodi Fayad + be happy than Diana would rather be poor (give away her riches/status) and happy (therefore can be with the man she fell in love with who keeps her happy) than having all the RICHES in the world + be ALONE (or a forced relationship) = miserable life. – you could imply it was her DREAM to LOVE the man of her life.
