Do we really "know" Gaga?

Monsters, one of the reasons I became such a fan of Gaga is because I believed she was an authentic person who genuinely wants to advocate for the "misfits." The beginning of the Monster Ball dvd reminded me of this...but lately it seems people are characterizing her as a media genius whose every action is a theatrical manipulation to promote her career. Monsters are quick to label her recent "demise" (smoking pot, plastic surgery) as some sort of symbolism depicting and carrying on the concept of the dangers of fame. So if everything she does is thought out, planned, and is not showing her real self, then who is the "Real Gaga"? And if fans are minimizing her recent behavior as "an act," how can we be sure the whole "Born this Way" theme wasn't also an act? Do we really know anything for sure?

After seeing the monster ball, I thought she was satanic. Seriously, but I've understood that I need to let all that go and just enjoy her for what she is and that is an entertainer. She is an pro-gay advocate though. That cannot be faked.

I think this is a great post with many great, thinking comments. Just the kinds should be on LM.com. In respect of the post, I believe that once Lady Gaga became the mega mega iconic celebrity that she currently is of today, her personal persona versus her professional person became blurred. How much truth is each one or mixed? It is a difficult inquiry to answer in absolute certainty. I just take her in genuine trust & patience in her talent. I believe that she is most certainly a perfectionist. She will not release anything unless it is perfect not only with her but the timing must be perfect. She is full of fun & surprises & wittiness! She is a deep rooted emotional yet thought provoking person.

BTW could be an act but would it really matter? As long as good has come from it. There might be no 'real' Gaga and we may never know the real Stefani but then she deserves her privacy... or why not just call herself Stefani? I've thought a few times that the whole thing may be an act. But I don't think her gratefulness to fans could ever be an act, thats when she seems most genuine and thats never changed with each 'era'.

Idk but with all that she shares with us on twitter and here in lm.com make me feel so connected to here, it's like if I knew her like a friend or something like that. I believe her because she has gave me reasons for believe her.<3

I‘ve been thinking about that a while ago, and you know what? I don’t care if she is just full of bullshit, I still like to believe all the things I learned from her, like you can be broke as hell and still rock like a superstar in your 2 dollar shades, that we should stop looking for monsters under our beds and start looking for them in our self’s, that an acoustic song can be better than the record version, that if a purple tea cup can have the fame, then anybody can take it, that bullying is for losers, a girl can go drag and look better than an actual male singer, and so many others but the most important one to be brave, to be who ever it is that you want to be

Clearly Born This Way was not an "act". The amount of emotion that's attached to that album was obvious when she told us the name of it and started crying at the VMAs.

i think that is wat makes her so interesting, I have no idea what ARTPOP will sound or be like. What if she is making us believe that its going to be about partying etc and then releases something completely different? She did say that she has big plans for ARTPOP, u will always favour some albums over others - i just cant wait to see what ARTPOP will be like tbh

Of course we know her.. thats why we know when she is acting and when she isn't .. Btw wasn't not a act but yeah she carried music video themes with her just to promote it.. and Gaga said ARTPOP isn't about her its something different.. so yeah she I do think she is carrying the theme of ARTPOP sometimes nowdays.. I think its just that she love her job very much and she goes real deep of that work.

(c) The Monsters that say everything she does is an act, well it is an act. Its an act of kindness and an act of showing us who she is and how much she cares. I believe that whenever she says "Some of you will stay with me forever. And some of you, will betray me" before performing Judas, is because she knows that some 'Monsters' are just pretending to care about her, then they just turn on her and say shes just in it for the publicity...(I have had this experience with a person that betrayed her and now I dont even know how to talk to him)

I think Gaga is just trying to show us who she really is. To me it seems that when she steps onstage, shes in some sort of trance like thing. She gets really into the music and really connects with the Monsters in the area. Whenever she's in a hotel and there are Monsters outside she hotel she often sends food to them and sometimes even comes out to talk to them. (c)

I have thought about this a lot as well, and I think I have the answer for it. the things that gaga does are not necessarily the act, its the way that she's doing it that's the act. we know she smokes pot. we know she is provocative. but she chooses to portray it to the media in several different ways because THEY don't know. I don't believe Born This Way is an act, that was a unique era that in my opinion happened because of us. and she says it over and over, WE wrote born this way, the inspiration came from us. I think it just a burst of emotion that she got from us, and when she saw us it reminded her or herself and the struggles she went through. so I believe that the BTW is completely genuine.

She's free to be whoever and however she wants to be, and she want others to do so as well. Nobody, not even those of celebrity status, should let some depiction of them take over their life and limit themselves from doing what they wanna do. If it makes you look good.. well great! if it makes you look bad in someones point of view... who cares! i think the fact that she's not going to be the same exact person she first emerged as is the biggest empowerment to us to just live our lives. ...That is of course, to those who need to look at it like that, those who need to critique everything in life to find an exact meaning before they choose to accept it.

It does feel more and more it's a show biz gimmick instead of loving your art. Especially when we know who's videoing and taking the pictures. I just want Gaga's heart to be real not her gutter showbiz ways lately.

I know in my heart that she is still the mother monster i'v known and loved sense 2009. I think She is creating ARTPOP in herself to really live ARTPOP and not just feeling it. Like this is all just a ARTPOP thing ya know? Shes still the mother monster i know and love. Shes just protraying herself in a different way, pushing her boundries and really seeing how far she can go with this. And Some monsters will leave but she will also gain monsters. Me, well i know i'm here to stay cause i get what shes trying to do
