Essay on music :D
I've had to do a speech on music for my english class. I'd really like some feedback xx
A lot of you may know that my biggest interest, is obviously, music. Most people, especially within our age group, only want to listen to a certain type of music, which is more than likely whatever is topping the charts. The thing is, I could spend all day listing the different artists, instruments, styles and genres, but what's the point? No-one can put a definition on the word 'music', because when you listen to a song, it can mean whatever you want it to. In my opinion, music is the only place where there are no rules, no limits and you can never be wrong. Of course, music has changed throughout the years, but if an artist had really made an impression on the world, and had exceeded their own limits, you can be guaranteed their legacy has lived on. An example of one of those artists is Freddie Mercury. Although he had a very lively life off stage and away from the spotlight, he still made sure that every song he wrote and preformed, could be the best it could be. Freddie could sing, he could write and he could certainly entertain. There are many others like him, such as Prince, who wrote one of the greatest albums to ever be recorded, naming it 'Purple rain'. Jimi Hendrix, one of the greatest guitarists of all time. In
fact, even now a days with all the technology, they cannot imitate the sound he could with a guitar and his bare hands. Elvis Presley, the man that bridged the gap between country and rock n' roll. I could stand here forever telling about legends, but that'd pointless. There were 4 men that changed the face of music, the only names that truly matters when it comes to how music has changed..and its The Beatles. The Beatles developed a new style of music that was a mix of rock n' roll and pop with a taste of rhythm and blues. Their sound was unique, like nothing the world had ever heard before. The Beatles were worldwide, known everywhere they went. It was their lyrics, their way of putting sounds together that made their music so individual.
Every single one of these artists changed music in their own way and have made a huge impact on the way things are today. As time passed music changed, singers became more interested in the fame than the meaning. Lip syncing became popular, the media were trying to find ways to tear apart whatever artist was at the top and if you had money, you had a record deal. What I'm trying to say is, music has changed. Not just the sounds, artists, styles, even whats used to make it. Its the actual meaning, music can mean whatever you want it to, but 70% artists now a days can't sing, write, dance or even play an instrument. Their record label sign them because they know they can turn them into a celebrity, someone that will be idolized for the way they look and dress. But when an artists personal life becomes the front cover and their music means nothing, how can we ever have another legend, if we don't even have artists? Thank you listening.
