I think this needs to be out there. The Paralympics in the UK were HUGE this year. Usually such events pass many people by. I also know that those watching saw the disability as a nothing. I mean that in the sense that it wasn't an issue. It just was and the sport was enjoyed for what it was. Disability needs to not be seen as a disability. It is something that happens and whilst many struggle with it, it is no different to a mental health issue. Yes it may physically effect a person, as do some mental health problems. But it is about the person, not what their "disability" is. It is about tolerance and acceptance and society as a whole being educated that difference is not different, it is the same. \we all need to learn that it is okay to not be what we are indoctrinated to believe is "right." I have no clue if I have articulated myself very well here and I do hope I make some sense. I just don't want disability to be something different when we are all the same <3
I don't appreciate this image. The image outright dismisses disabilities as nothing more than an "attitude problem." It acts as though it's as easy as putting a smile on your face and just trying. It puts the responsibility at overcoming the disability on the person with the disability themselves, and ignores completely the role of everyone else. A disability isn't a *state of mind*, it's a daily challenge that puts limits on you every day. It's not all easily curable by a positive attitude. This image is shallow and damaging, and doesn't make the world a better place for those living with disabilities. It just makes people without disabilities feel better about themselves.
Hi Anthony I LOVE this picture and it's indeed very inspirational! If any of you monsters out there is interested to read and learn more about the whole subject, why not have a look into: stopdiscriminationagainstspecialneeds.com Only a clue...
