The gay "Choice"

Do you know what really grinds my gears? The people in the world who declare that being "Gay" or "Lesbian" Or any other sexuality besides straight is a "CHOICE." You know what I say to that. Fuck you. When the hell did you make a choice to be straight? When did you come to that crossroads in your life with a sign pointing "This way to Straight Land", or "This way to Gay, society hates you, discrimination will be everywhere land"... Let's get real. If any of us had a choice we would have chosen the easier life. We don't have a choice. You didn't choose. Get off your high horses, and come back down to this place we call earth. Start loving one another, start standing up for the human race.. Instead of kicking certain groups down.

I also hate the term, "Sexual Preference", which indicates it as a choice, and that I rather one over the other - and yet that is so freely used by organisations and governments let alone everyone else...

Thanks for this Endless Stars. It so sad that because of these attitudes some people choose to pretend to be straight. So yeah it fucks me off too when some people say being gay is unnatural and therefore a choice. Feeling forced to hide the true you because of others is more unnatural in my book.

I had someone say that to me recently. It really rubbed me the wrong way. I did not chooose to be attracted to other females. No person in their right mind would choose the more dificult road in life that the LGBT community deals with. I truly was born this way. My earliest memory of having a crush on a girl was at 7. I don't really remember a lot of my life prior to that because of things that happened at a younger age, but my point is what does a 7 year old know about sexuality? Nothing, I didn't really think much of it, but as I got older and I realized that liking girls wasn't the "normal" thing to do I hid it. Society is ridiculous and people can be some of the most ignorants beings. People really need to wake up and stop walking through life blind and dumb.

Every time I hear something like this I just brush it off. When it comes to these kind of people there is NO convincing them that being gay is not a choice. It just is practically impossible.!!! The best thing to do is know that your belief is right and they are WRONG and no matter what you are right in your life!!! Love the fact that you ar gay and realize that it is a blessing!

and smfh at the people who try to come up with "psychological explanations" for homosexuality. i once talked to a guy who was strongly convinced that all gay people had to have experienced some sort of psychological trauma in their life such as divorce, rape, or abuse in order to become gay (AKA pure bullshit at its finest.) I'll tell you right now that I was raised in a wonderful family, with heterosexual parents and siblings, I was never abused by anybody close to me and had a pretty normal, happy childhood. So why am I gay? That's just how the fuck I was born. I guess it just wound up in my genetics. Gay comes from within. Yes it's unusual, but it's not unnatural. Gay is like being left-handed, having red hair, having green eyes. It's not something any of us can help. It's not a fucking choice. It's not a disease. It's not something that occurs from "environmental factors". It's loving who you want to love. Sure, it's different and many people may not understand it, but just because someone doesn't understand something doesn't mean it's wrong.

the thing that cracks me up is that certain homophobes will have the nerve to tell us that being gay is a choice, but then if you accuse them of "choosing to be straight" they'll get all defensive right away and demand that they were born straight. they don't even see how idiotic they are!

Indeed. You know, even I get frustrated too, with my sexuality. I tell my boyfriend that I'm a "Lesbian trapped in a straight persons body." I feel like I should be lesbian, I want to be lesbian, I want to like girls, but I find myself constantly attracted physically to males. Yes, I am Pansexual so its the lack of seeing gender but ti's not the same as what my soul wanted. It's funny because it's kinda the opposite problem. But. very well said.

When it comes to this choice thing, I always that that if it was really a choice, EVERY SINGLE F*CKING PERSON IN THE WORLD would choose to be straight. 1 in 3 gay teens attempt suicide. We know we can't truly change. Those prayer programs that say you can just teach people to ignore their own sexual orientation. Also, homosexuality is completely natural. It exists in over 500 different species. Infact, what I call our sister apes, the Bonobos live in a female dominated bisexual society. The thing with all of this is that people can not only be homophobic, but xenophobic. Society has taught people to fear difference, and when equality comes into the picture, those people feel threatened. Why do you think so many leaders who promote equality get themselves assassinated? It's because they are considered a threat to other people.
