This scene took place on a British Airways flight between Johannesburg, South Africa and London, England. A white woman in her fifties was seated next to a black man. She seemed disturbed by this fact and looked around to catch the attention of the air hostess. After a short while the air hostess came up to her and asked: "What can I do for you, Madam?" "Obviously do you not see it then?" the lady responded. "You have placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to somone so disgusting! So, please give me an alternative seat" the lady went on in quite a loud voice. "Calm down please," the hostess replied. "Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go and see if another place is availble." The hostess went away and many passangers around the lady and the black man looked uncomfortable. The black man kept reading his newspaper without looking up. A few minutes later the air hostess came back. "Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in Economy Class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there are no seats in Business Class either. All the same, we still have one place in First Class." Before the woman could say something, the hostess continued: "It's not usual for our company to permit someone from Economy Class to sit in first class. However, given the circumstance, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting.' The air hostess then turned to the black man, and said: "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to there's a seat awaits you in the First Class cabin."
