Can I have your thoughts? Please help me out.

I've just been on holiday with my fathers friend and his 12 year old daughter. She said I don't understand why Lady gaga is so popular and I said "because she's an amazing singer, musician, songwriter, stands for things and inspires millions. I could go on." the 12 year old looked confused so I said "Oh and she's mega hot". to which she replied "That's just creepy you weirdo". Perhaps the 'hot' comment wasn't the right thing to say to a 12 year old, but I then thought, why are children brought up to have the belief embedded in them that being gay or bisexual is 'creepy', or anything even linked to being gay or bisexual is 'creepy'? I don't think it's the 12 year olds fault, or even her parents, perhaps just society making LGBT communities outcast, and 'abnormal'. What are your thoughts?

We should have conversations like this more often.. You know, the intelligent sort, as well as our ones about cheerios and stuff ;)

It's almost programmed I think. Like second nature to people to immediately hold something against LBGT. Sadly I don't think it will ever change, it will get better but I'm not sure that there will ever be a time when if you mention the word "gay" the first word that will pop into at least one person's head will be "weird".

Well I think I've known from primary school that I was more attracted to the same sex. And I remember thinking then that it was weird, we're just brought up in such a narrow minded way that everything outside the 'norm' is so alien. I think even people who say they accept the LGBT community still hold some sort of prejudice towards it. I was in a restaurant in paris, where all the tables are linked. A gay couple sat next to me and my dad and he quickly gave me a wide eyed look of disapproval, yet he's a man who says he holds nothing against the LGBT community.

I'm not saying everyone raised these days is against our community- not at all. It's just an alien concept to them because nobody stops and thinks about the logic of everything. we're not the "model" community, the one that is shown as desirable to be part of. I think the world needs to realise it doesn't make us lesser people, but it's just stereotyped as "weird".. we're getting there though, hopefully society's actually start to edge towards equality :)<3

well, I pretty much knew I was bisexual when I was this girl's age, and to start with I remember thinking "how can this be me?". Like, I had nothing whatsoever against the LGBT community, but I did feel "abnormal" because I never expected it to be me who was the outcast, you know? I don't think kids growing up are made fully aware of how the whole of society works, they're just all expected to be the same and told they'll grow up to marry and have kids and everything. From an early age society pushes them towards the opposite sex, it's the only type of relationship that's promoted because let's face it: you and I could never make a kid if we wanted to. Kids grow up only knowing one kind of world, the "normal" one, so if ever they do begin to realise they're attracted to the same sex they think it must be wrong.

It's like an old clock. We're tuning out those old beliefs and trying to restore balance to the minds of everyone on Earth- not an easy task. But we'll be there one day. =D
