Gay Pride isn't about being Gay

Gay Pride isn't about being Gay. That's what a lot of people misunderstand. We aren't proud of our sexuality -- we're proud that we're OPEN about it and that we ACCEPT ourselves in a world that tells us we're evil and wrong. It takes bravery and strength to come out and be yourself - and that's something to be proud of! :)

Katie the parades are celebrating our being OUT. I absolutely believe in having gay pride parades and other events. I'm merely pointing out that people misunderstand what exactly we're "proud" of.

Thank you for explaining this, i was wondering what is the point of the parade. But are those parades needed, the parades i saw looked like they were for fun or entertainment. There was parade in my country, but it was a big fiasco even with all the police escort -_- Whats worse some homophobic idiots were shouting " Beat the gays!", even some politics were involved, phe.

I completely agree with your statement. When asked why I do not attend Gay PRIDE by someone straight I ask them if they are proud of being straight. That should be the answer. I am able to be open about who I am but I am not going to sit there and think that I am better than everyone else because the fact that I am gay. Straight people do not have parades to celebrate their straightness.. what gives us the right to think that we need to celebrate our gayness. That is what the parades are anymore.
