#BeKind21: Rise by Lifting Others
#BeKind21: Rise by Lifting Others
Today’s #BeKind21 message is brought to you by our partners at Black Girls Code. (blackgirlscode.com)
There is true power that lies in sisterhood. In finding our community, we can become true agents of change. From the girls of color that we serve globally to our volunteers who are dedicated to educating and empowering our #futuretechbosses to step into STEM, the spirit of community echoes throughout every corner of Black Girls CODE.
Stepping into an industry where you have been historically underrepresented is no easy feat, which is why we’ve cultivated safe spaces for our girls to learn, grow, and ultimately actualize the fullness of their dreams. Representation is everything and for many of our girls, our workshops are the first time when they’ve seen themselves reflected in the STEM space, whether it be through an instructor or a fellow student. “What I absolutely love about the organization is that it lets me know that I am not alone in my love for tech, or in my goals to one day work in the tech industry,” shared one of our #futuretechbosses Charmienne Butterfield. Butterfield, who is an aspiring NASA Astrophysicist, has participated in our programs since the age of 8. “It not only brings like-minded girls together, but also introduces us to women and men of color in the tech industry, who we can look up to, and know that there are others out there who also want to see that we succeed.”
We go beyond teaching our girls how to write a line of code; we empower our girls to unapologetically take up space, tap into the power of their authenticity, and shatter glass ceilings. We also remind them that when they’ve reached the top, they must reach back to uplift others because knowledge is a force when shared. The friendships and mentorships that have been fostered through our programs—which were built on the foundation of kindness, compassion, and empathy—are a true testament to the power of unity.
Your kindness challenge today: As you go along your path, find ways to lift others up.
In Kindness,
Black Girls Code
