Born This Way Ball, Porto Alegre
November 13, 2012
This was the first and only time I saw Gaga live. Her show in my hometown was actually added to the South American leg of the tour months after the dates for the other cities in Brazil had been announced. I basically dealt with the frustration of knowing I wouldn’t see her (because of money) and then the best news ever came in.
I was in my senior year, looking at my phone (during class 🤭) and I screamed when I saw that she had added Porto Alegre (in the south of Brazil) to the leg. I couldn’t process what that meant for me and my teenage years. Gaga helped me accept myself and understand the importance of true expression through art since I first saw her on Miss Universe 2008.
The experience at the BTWBall was everything I had expected and more. I had never been to a concert before and to have my first memory be the one of my favorite superstar just a few meters away from me was worth every moment in the sunnwaiting for the gates to open, my voiceloss the next day and waking up in the middle of the night with cramps in my calfs from all the jumping and dancing (specially in Scheisse).
This moment in particular of the show, after Bad Romance, when Gaga would give the “I am you” speech, she would also sing the city’s name in the “ra-ra-roma-ma” part. I remember to today how special that felt, to hear her say my city’s name. To realize that that woman who had been inspiring me so much through so many years, whom I shared with so many moments of freedom dancing to her music behind close doors in my bedroom, was right in front of me. Speaking to me and all the little monsters in my city. I cherish this memory forever and this was certainly one of the best moments of my life.
Thank you Gaga, I love you.
I do not own this video, this video is from a fan from youtube.
